Throat Chakra

IF YOU DON’T ALREADY KNOW WHAT A CHAKRA IS, PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ OUR PREVIOUS POST ENTITLED CHAKRAS FOR BEGINNERS

This post will go into more detail regarding the Fifth chakra known as the Throat Chakra, also known by the name Vishuddhi in Sanskrit.  It is portrayed with the color blue, specifically dark blue as it symbolizes the poisons that are within and without ourselves.

The Vishuddhi Chakra is a place of purification and balancing. This is the first chakra out of 3 that represent the spirit and It is related to communication, authenticity, and purification; specifically being able to express your inner voice to the outer world.  The elements associated with this chakra are both fire and spirit. This chakra is where you are to purify your negativity. This chakra is in the middle of the outside and inside worlds located in the throat or larynx. It is where you are to hold all of life’s negativity so that you neither ingest it and hurt yourself, or spit it out and harm the world.

This chakra deals with speaking and seeking truth in all forms but most drastically that in expressing your true self to the world around you. The sense associated with the throat chakra is hearing. This chakra invites you to think about each and every emotion you have and purify it as you feel it so that it does no harm anywhere. Often we “swallow” our problems or else we “throw them up” and both instances result in unhealthy communication and negativity. This chakra remind us that there is power in words, what we speak should only be positive. Words are spells even if we do not mean them to be.

The main aspects of this chakra are; purification, compassion, freedom, expression, justice, truthfulness, responsibility, leadership, clarity, and wisdom. The scents and herbs associated with this chakra are; frankincense, cinnamon, peppermint, spearmint, clove and chamomile.

The throat chakra is located on the 5th rung in the chakra ladder and conveniently located so that you do not need to let any negativity pass in or out. This is the chakra that evokes true enlightenment as it offers the ability to not only express yourself freely and healthily, but also to control your emotions so they do not control you. This is also why it feels good when you get to talk about your feelings, venting is a form of activating this chakra. However you must remember to vent in a healthy manner in order to avoid blockages.

The number 16 also refers to the sixteen days it takes for the half-moon to grow into the full moon as another symbol of the Vishuddhi Chakra is the HALF MOON. As already mentioned in earlier chapters the moon denotes emotions, change and the female principle.

If your throat chakra is out of balance you may experience physical and mental symptoms with varying degrees of intensity. You may also see actions that show possible blockages such as; trouble speaking your mind, speaking your mind without thinking, problems with public speaking or cracking of voice and gossiping or spreading negativity. Possible mental symptoms may include; anxiety when communicating to others, feelings of isolation, inability to express emotions, expression of emotions in a violent or turbulent manner, feelings of helplessness, constant unintentional spread of negativity through words (this can sometimes manifest into negativity in our surroundings as well). The physical bodily symptoms may involve; shoulder and neck pain, premature hearing loss, problems with the nasal area, irritated sinuses, sore throat, jaw pain and TMJ, voice loss, thyroid problems, teeth and gum problems, and ailments of the esophagus and tonsils.

If you are experiencing any of these at a level you feel you can not handle seek medical advise immediately as these could also be signs of a more serious issue.
